Association for Project Management (APM) is celebrating after being named Overall Best Association (over 1,000 members) at the Association Excellence Awards 2019, which took place on Friday. APM also won a bronze award for Best Association Awards Event – APM Project Management Awards 2018.

APM has achieved a lot over the last 12 months, after becoming the only chartered body for the project profession in April 2017, the chartered standard for individuals was opened the following spring. With the aim of receiving 350 applications in the first year; there were 495 Chartered Project Professionals (ChPP) registered by the end of March 2019 with 768 applications having been made.

APM has also launched several big initiatives over the past 12 months, including Golden Thread, its research project into the economic value of project management, conducted with PwC, and the seventh edition of its flagship publication, APM Body of Knowledge.

It has expanded the APM Ambassador network, creating more active champions of the project profession. This is on top of its ongoing work to support and grow the project profession across the UK and beyond, through its resources and events. As a result, membership numbers are increasing, with a 16 per cent increase in membership and a 19 per cent increase in revenue.

APM has also invested a lot of time into education and qualifications within the profession, particularly through apprenticeships. As a result, Student member numbers have increased by 79 per cent, ensuring a bright future for the profession.

“We are thrilled to win this award in the year when we celebrated our first Chartered Project Professionals and would like to thank all our members, volunteers, staff and Board for making it possible,” said Debbie Dore, APM’s chief executive.
