A corporate breakfast meeting was held on 7th March 219 at Hong Kong Club. It is the first of its kind organized by APM UK to discuss “What has gone wrong with Project Management in Hong Kong” the main theme of the meeting.

This round table discussion was attended by 25 participants coming from all sectors of project management professionals in Hong Kong. This included the Government officials from Development Bureau, academics from University of Hong Kong, professionals from consultancy firms of KPMG, Advisan, Arup, and major APM corporates of Gammon, Ocean Park, CLP Holding, HK Jockey Club, etc.

The hard fact was that there were adequate qualified architects, engineers, focusing on the technical issues. But there were system problems and there were hardly any qualified or Chartered project managers to tackle the soft issues of the local projects.

In midst of an increasing workload of Capital Projects and an ever rising expectation from the public, the PM-related problems persist. And the HKSAR Government also acknowledges them. If the Government would like to maintain the momentum to deliver world class infrastructure projects, it needs to address the issues adequately and urgently.

The Government officials in the meeting did hear the views, comments and even worries from the consultants, contractors, and corporate members. APM HK/UK should be placed to assist them in identifying the remedial measures and steps to be implemented to manage and track issues on projects.
