1. Welcome from our Chair
get in touch.
Our practitioner groups are continuing to grow with a passion to collaborate and cascade on new and innovative ways in the art of enabling change producing some really good outputs. If you would like to get involved or know more about the groups please email us.
We now have over 770 followers and growing. APM members and others are welcome to interact with us and we encourage you to follow us on Twitter @apmecsig, where we post: upcoming events of interest to the group, share related material, and much more. We are also available via email.
Our real focus has been on supporting APM and other SIGs and branches in helping them to understand change management, we started by updating our fact sheet about out who we are, what we do, and what we can offer. We have been involved in a few branch events so far which are covered under section 3. We will be continuing to share online content this year through our website. We will also be running some webinars and events later this year so please keep an eye out for these.

3. Past event: Midlands branch event, 9 April – Change Management is Changing
The SIG joined business change practitioner, trainer, and author Nicola Busby, at an event in Solihull, Birmingham for a lively event on ‘Change Management is Changing’.
Nicola focused on one ‘TwentyEight Strategy Execution’s Top 10 trends for 2019 on ‘Enterprise-wide change management’. Enterprise-wide change management can be described in many ways, including adapting to continuous change and seeing change as business-as-usual. Companies like Amazon, Google, and Apple are making sure their employees are a good culture fit with the ECM approach, and to ensure employees are change ready and resilient.
Nicola concluded by asking whether the ECM approach would be a good fit for the project profession, and the discussion continued throughout post-presentation refreshments.
This was a great event to be involved in and we will be collaborating with more branches and SIGs in the future.

5. Public Services Change Practitioner Group
The working group Public Services Change Practitioner Group under the APM Enabling Change SIG, have acted as practitioner advisors’ to APM’s research fund study on “transformational leadership in the public sector”, which is also part of the Infrastructure and Project Authority’s Project X research initiative. Dicle Kortantamer, a PhD student at the University of Brighton carried out this research which was launched on Friday 10 May 2019. The research aims to advance understandings of individual, team and organisation-wide leadership capabilities for responding to complexity in transformation and service delivery projects.
Linked to the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) Project X research initiative (theme E on capability and knowledge management), the research intends to provide advanced understandings of approaches to leading transformation and service delivery projects. It examines the challenges and opportunities, and provides a systemic leadership framework for effectively responding to them.
Dicle Kortantamer, PhD student at the University of Brighton said: “As transformation and service delivery projects increase in the public and private sectors, and the challenges facing them grow in scale, scope and complexity, there is a pressing need to focus on improving the leadership capacities and capabilities of these projects. Extending conventional leadership views to include systemic approaches can be a powerful response to the challenges of transformation and service delivery projects and it’s a key skill for project management professionals.”
