Achieving MAPM status has always been somewhat of a rite of passage for project professionals, becoming a full member being an important step in any project manager’s career.

That’s why we are pleased to announce the launch of our revised Full member standard.

Further to our listening to feedback, we have acted and adapted the application process for MAPM, introducing a new route for holders of accepted qualifications.

Currently this includes the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) and IPMA Level D but we expect the number of accepted qualifications to grow in the future.

We have also updated the evidence requirements as part of the joining process, to reflect the varying skills and experience we know project professionals have across the profession.

What does this mean for you?

  1. If you hold an accepted qualification and three years’ experience, you will now be eligible to apply for Full membership (MAPM).
  2. The evidence requirements for MAPM applications have been revised to reflect the varying skills and experience of project professionals. You can find out more in our guidance documents.

Why change?

These updates are a recognition of the varying skills and experiences of project professionals today. The refined joining process recognises the value of qualifications in the MAPM process and we hope will encourage a wider range of project professionals to join us to access the support and network of like minded individuals that APM provides.

Importantly though, this update is part of APM’s absolute focus on representing the whole of the project profession: all individuals, across all sectors, at all stages of their careers, through a wide range of tailored membership options and qualifications.

The positioning of the standard and level remains the same and becoming a Full member (MAPM) of APM continues to be an achievement for our members to take pride in. Applications made after the changeover will still be required to go through the same robust processes before being awarded MAPM.

For more information see details of our membership grades here.

Will this change have any effect on existing members? In particular people like me who have been members since the 1980's and have no relevant qualifications.
