Seven key findings from APM membership research
Association for Project Management’s overall rating as a professional body has increased among its members over the past year, new research shows.
APM’s annual membership satisfaction survey – which assesses the preferences, expectations and perceptions of the project community – revealed several interesting findings, including:
- APM’s overall rating as a professional body has increased from last year to 4.29 out of 5, with 41 per cent of members rating APM 5 out of 5.
- Nearly two-thirds (64 per cent) of members said APM membership is good value for money, which has increased from 2020.
- Two-thirds (66 per cent) of respondents rated APM 4 or 5 out of 5 for effectiveness in promoting the profession.
- When asked on a scale of 1-10 how likely they would be to recommend APM membership, Associate, Full and Fellow members all gave an average response of 9 or higher.
- When asked on a scale of 1-10 how likely they would be to recommend APM’s products and services, members gave an average score of 8.9.
- Members say APM compares favourably to other professional organisations they’re members of when it comes to professional recognition, representation, creating a professional community, member benefits, value for money and more.
- 92 per cent of those who have achieved Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status feel a sense of pride.
The survey also highlighted valuable opportunities for improvement. The results showed members are increasingly happy with APM’s efforts in raising awareness of the profession, but its visibility amongst employers, the public and young people is key for the future. Also, Student members were found to be less aware of the range of benefits and services available to help them enhance their career.
Dayner Proudfoot, head of brand and communications at APM, said: “The results of this survey show that APM is held in high regard by the project community and we’re delighted to see so many improvements during what has been a turbulent year for many.
“In a changing and challenging world, the project profession needs to be better understood. This survey is an important way of ensuring that we remain aware of our members’ needs and expectations, and also that we continue to improve, champion the new and help the project profession deliver better.”

That's great news. With the pandemic, I think APM capitalised on the webinars and scored big time. I think every presentation going forward should be live-streamed. This means more people can benefit from the presentations when everything goes back to normal. Obviously, when I can attend a face to face I will, but it is so convenient to be able to attend more of them from this end of the keyboard and I get the same rich information from the presentation. Thank APM team you all are doing a great job. Ashok Singha. BTec. BEng. MSc. MAPM. PS - Loving the short online self-development training.
