Project professionals on Channel Islands gather at launch of new APM branch
Association for Project Management (APM) welcomed guests from across the Channel Islands to a launch event for the organisation’s new regional branch, which aims to promote, professionalise and grow the project profession in the local area.
The launch event for the new Channel Islands branch took place at The Old Government House hotel, Guernsey on Tuesday, 19 September.
Members of the project community from Jersey, Guernsey and surrounding islands met with guests to network with fellow professionals and hear speeches from VIP guests. Among the sectors represented by attendees were energy, finance and professional services sector, as well as local media.
Many of the committee members of the Channel Islands branch were previously committee members of APM’s Wessex branch, of which the Channel Islands was originally a local chapter. During the launch event, APM’s Chief Executive, Professor Adam Boddison OBE, said that the new dedicated branch would help meet the needs of local project professionals, adding that the Channel Islands has the potential to serve as a model that could be emulated elsewhere to further boost the profession.
“APM can not only make a difference here but actually use the Channel Islands as a blueprint for what we can do elsewhere,” he told attendees. “You’ve already started to set that blueprint and grow what I think is the most impactful profession in the world.”
Steve Falla, Vice-President of the Committee for Economic Development for States of Guernsey, also gave a speech in which he acknowledged the importance of the project profession to the island’s economy and residents.
He said: “I completely applaud what the APM is doing; I applaud its objectives to build a community and improve outcomes of projects.”
