Association for Project Management (APM) has broken new ground for membership engagement and involvement by moving its annual Board election and Annual General Meeting (AGM) fully online.

As the chartered body for the project profession and a registered educational charity, the AGM gives members the opportunity to hear about performance and the latest updates, as well as the chance to put questions to the organisation’s Board and leadership team. The AGM also formally receives and affirms the results of the annual Board elections.

Both the voting process and the AGM itself took place fully online this year in a first for APM. Removing paper from the ballot process has saved money and reduced APM’s carbon footprint.  While hosting the AGM online was essential due to the pandemic, it has also enabled more people to take part safely and conveniently.

Over 100 people attended the AGM, setting a new record. Voter turnout also reached an all-time high of 26.6 per cent; a third more than the previous record. This places APM in the top 10-15 per cent of comparable organisations by voter turnout, according to election services organisation Civica.

Company secretary Mike Robinson said: “This was our first fully online ballot, reflecting our commitment to reducing APM’s carbon footprint and doing all we can to tackle climate change. We were also delighted to see such interest in the online AGM format.

“I would like to thank our members for showing such great interest in how APM is run. The importance of democratic processes has never been more important, so we are delighted to see a growing number of people become actively involved.”
