North West Multi-Modal Transport Hub (NWMTH) Derry – Londonderry webinar

The planning and delivery for the new North-West Multi-Modal Transport Hub in Derry~Londonderry from concept to handover.

The new multi-modal North-West Transport Hub in Derry~Londonderry aims to create a gateway with enhanced connectivity to the north west region. Located at the former Waterside train station, an 1852 Grade B-listed building, the project integrates rail services with local, inter-urban and cross border bus services as well as cycle and walking routes and supports wider regeneration.

The £28m project has received funding from the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) as well as support from the Department for Infrastructure (NI), Department Transport, Tourism and Sport (Ireland) as well as Derry City and Strabane Council.

The first phase of the project, completed in October 2019 includes 1.8km of new railway track, signaling systems, new platforms and canopies as well as the re-development and restoration of the listed building and links to the city Greenway.

Phase two of the project which comprised a new Park and Ride facility, bus turning facilities and public realm space was completed in November 2020.

The event gave an insight to the challenges of planning and delivery of a complex multi-disciplinary transport project, including the restoration of a listed building.


Gary McCluskey BSc (Hons), MCIOB, MAPM, Senior Programme Manager, Property, Translink

Gary is a Senior Programme Manager within Translink’s Property Department and is responsible for coordination and delivery of a number of programmes across the Property portfolio. Gary has been responsible for planning and delivery of the NWMTH project from inception to completion, undertaking the role of Project Manager through the pre-construction phases.

Lisa McFadden, Programme Manager with Translink

Lisa is a Programme Manager with Translink. Lisa has previously worked as a Senior Project Engineer with High Speed 2 Ltd, Network Rail and as a Design Engineer with WYG. Lisa has managed the delivery of the NWMTH project through the handover of Phase 1. Lisa is now working on the Belfast Transport Hub project delivery team.

Paul Denvir BEng, GMICE, Programme Manager, Property, Translink

Paul is a Programme Manager in the Property Department within Translink’s Infrastructure and Projects Division and is responsible for project delivery throughout his team. Previously working as a Contractor with Graham Construction and Ferrovial Agroman on various large-scale civil engineering and building projects throughout the UK and Ireland, Paul joined Translink in 2019 taking over responsibility for delivery of Phase 2 of the NWMTH project.
