Government launches new Projects Academy

The Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) has launched a new academy to support the delivery of major government infrastructure projects, with a framework that includes APM qualifications and standards.

The Government Projects Academy is aimed at improving project delivery skills for professionals across government, to increase the capacity and capability to improve the delivery of public projects. The Academy’s framework includes APM’s Project Fundamentals Qualification, Project Management Qualification, and Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status.

The Academy will sit as a faculty on the Government Learning Campus, promoting a culture of learning and targeted training to nurture and hone the skills of civil servants. It will provide a single, virtual hub for professional standards, accreditation and training for project professionals working across government. Along with a clear set of roles, competencies and skills, the Academy will provide professionals with a ‘licence to practice’ and access to a redesigned learning curriculum to support them in their roles and accreditation.

Commenting on the launch, Jackie Martin, director of education and lifelong learning at APM, said: “As the chartered body for the project profession, we welcome the launch of the Government Project Academy, which recognises the importance of skills and capacity in delivering projects better.

“We’re delighted that APM’s qualifications and the ChPP standard are embedded within the Academy’s framework, alongside recognised benchmarks from other organisations. This will help drive project professionalism and strengthen delivery across government by putting world class delivery, modern methods and sustainability at the heart of training practices. The systemic training provided by the Academy will play a vital role in improving the delivery and leadership skills that will help projects realise their benefits and deliver positive change for individuals and communities.”
