1. Welcome from our Chair

get in touch.

Our practitioner groups continue to grow, with a passion to collaborate and cascade on new and innovative ways in the art of enabling change.  If you would like to get involved or know more about the groups please email us.

We have over 600 followers and growing.  APM members and others are welcome to interact with us and we encourage you to follow us on Twitter, @apmecsig, where we post: upcoming events of interest to the group, share related material and much more.  We are also available via email.

We want to continue to support the APM and other SIGs and branches in helping them to understand change management, we will be sending out communications on who we are, what we do and what we can offer to you in the new year. We will be sharing some really useful online content this year on our APM microsite website area. We will also be running webinars and events, so please keep an eye out for these.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Donna Unitt

2. Past event: Innovative Quality Solutions –  Digital Transformation in Higher Education, 10 September 2018 (webinar)

Digital transformation is impacting businesses and institutions across all industries. One sector that is going through significant change is the Higher Education (HE) sector, which contains the institutions that develop our next generation of leaders.

Leading people and organisations through this process is a new and a significant leadership challenge. In the webinar, Kuldip Sandhu and Paul Featherstone discussed the challenge of leading digital transformation in Higher Education, and what new skills and knowledge leaders need to thrive in this challenging new environment. The webinar was very well attended and we thank them for their time.

 3. Transport Practitioner Group

At the end of January 2019, the Transport Practitioner Group under the APM Enabling Change SIG and the Change Management Institute are coming together to run an event hosted at British Airways Headquarters, Waterside. This will be a half day workshop to share knowledge and grow our collective understanding, about how portfolio level change management is developed and applied within the participating organisations. By the end of this workshop, participants will have co-created a range of ideas/concepts to reflect what best practice could look like. The event is aimed at senior change managers and senior portfolio office managers who are already working on this challenge. It will prove to be a very productive event that provides a fantastic opportunity to network. Attendance is by invitation only.

The APM Transport Practitioner Group under the APM Enabling Change SIG is keen to expand its scope of interest, particularly into roads and shipping. If anyone would like to enquire about joining, please get in contact.

4. Public Services Change Practitioner Group

The Public Services Change Practitioner Group relaunched in February and has welcomed some new members. At the March meeting the group identified three objectives for 2018/19, one of which is to act as a ‘practitioner advisor’ to APM’s forthcoming research fund study on “transformational leadership in the public sector”, which is also part of the Infrastructure and Project Authority’s Project X research initiative.  The study has progressed well and we hope to launch this by early spring 2019.  The group’s latest meeting took place in late November and focussed on priorities for 2019. They are seeking more members, so if you are interested in joining get in touch!

5. Methods and Standards Theme

APM Enabling Change SIG Change Methodologies Survey which we launched in April was aimed at change practitioners to gain an insight on how change methodologies are used, and to see what tools would be useful to members in the future.  The results highlighted that there were two areas that were lacking in most respondents toolkits – force field analysis and stakeholder readiness assessment. We will focus on developing these as one of our key objectives in the next 12 months. If you would like to get involved in this please contact us it would be great to have your input.
