Data Competency: Better Skills or Better Systems webinar
As the use of data becomes more embedded in the project environment, it will demand a greater level of data competency from project professionals and their organisations. This webinar was held on 7 September 2021.
During this lunch-time webinar, we looked to explore how the use of data in the project environment impacts the way we work. We talked to industry experts from various sectors, to help us better understand how investment in upskilling and systems can ensure future project success. We looked to identify the key benefits of these two elements of a project.
Host: Marius Vermaak, APM South East Branch
The guest speakers for this webinar are:
- Dan Hare
- Luis Lattuf-Flores
- Martin Paver
The speakers have very kindly allowed their presented material to be made available for viewing. The slides on Slideshare and the webinar recording on YouTube is now available in our APM resources area and also embedded below for reference.
30-year data career ranges from coding hedge fund systems, through building a data warehouse consultancy team to founding the Alteryx UK Partner of the Year, Continuum.
Helping organisations use their data to become better, quicker and cheaper should be easy, but it is getting harder every day. The gap between the systems and data quality on a typical person’s smartphone and their desktop is startling and getting worse. Data never agrees or is trustworthy, and a lack of technical skills leads to scores of manual Excel spreadsheet processes, hard-coded reports and unreconciled dashboards. Dan founded Continuum seven years ago to bridge this gap.
Luis is a civil engineer from Mexico with industry experience in the construction costs estimates area. He has a master’s degree from the University of Leeds in international construction management. Currently, he is doing a sponsored PhD at the University of Warwick and is a researcher of WMG’s Project Praxis group. His research is looking at the barriers and enablers for the adoption of project data analytics by project delivery organisations. He is also a two times PhD research grant award winner from the Major Projects Association.
Martin is the CEO and founder of Projecting Success, a consultancy that is pushing new boundaries in advanced project data analytics; with a quest to transform how projects are delivered. He is the founder of the Project Data Analytics community of ~7,500 people, co-chair of the Project Data Analytics Task Force and a member of the APM data advisory group.
There will be an opportunity for questions during the session.
