Crossrail Learning Legacy webinar: 16 August
In the latest Learning Legacy webinar on 16 August, Simon Bennett, head of Learning Legacy at Crossrail, will describe the management of stakeholder engagement on a large infrastructure project both pre- and post-Bill approval. After nearly 10 years of construction the project will transform rail transport in London and the south east, increasing central London rail capacity by 10 per cent, supporting regeneration and cutting journey times across the city.
The new map showing Elizabeth line services from December 2019 is available to download here.
The Elizabeth line will deliver a direct connection between all of London’s main employment centres, linking Heathrow with Paddington, the West End, the City and Canary Wharf. The Elizabeth line will open in December 2018 when services commence through central London.
With over 75,000 opportunities for business and millions of commuters and stakeholders effected how do you ensure you manage stakeholder engagement on such a large infrastructure project?
Simon Bennett is a civil engineer, transport planner and communications professional, he worked on the original 1990's Crossrail scheme for London Underground and in 2000 was seconded from TfL to Cross London Rail Links to work on developing the project and securing powers. He led the consultation team which became the petitions negotiation team during the Bill process. During the construction phase he has been head of stakeholder management and then programme community relations manager.
In 2015, Simon was appointed to lead the team responsible for the collation and dissemination of good practice, innovation and lessons learned from the Crossrail construction programme aimed at raising the bar in industry and showcasing UK PLC.
The promotion and delivery of the Crossrail programme has involved extensive communication with directly impacted stakeholders and all those interested in the scheme. Starting with initial engagement during route option selection, through pre-authorisation consultation and the Hybrid Bill process, to the extensive provision for community relations and wider communication during construction. Simon will explain how Crossrail managed this work, ensured people were informed about how the project would affect them, and built and maintained the reputation of the delivery organisation.
Detailed case study papers will be available on this topic on the Crossrail Learning Legacy website from 19 September 2017.
