This year, new additions have been made to the fund including a higher tier of funding of £25,000 for submissions of a larger scale, ambition and impact, and for the first time, international academics are also able to apply for funding. APM’s research themes for 2020 are:
- The United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the social value of project and project management
- The Value of assurance
Other themes that support APM’s strategy and cover innovative topics which could have a pivotal impact on the project profession will also be considered.
In addition to funding, successful applicants will also benefit from access to potential research participants and organisations; promotion and by providing a dissemination platform for research at its events, publications, journals and media activities.
One of the most notable research studies published is Project Leadership: Skills, Behaviours, Knowledge and Values led by Professor Mike Bourne (Cranfield University) and Sarah Coleman, which since being published in 2018 has disseminated over 4000 hard copies of the report, and seen coverage in the national broadsheets and journals. It has gone on to influence many major organisation’s thinking and capability development around project leadership.
The next APM research fund study will be on Eliminating Modern Slavery due for publication in May 2020.
APM’s Research Advisory Group Chair Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger comments:
“The APM Research Fund has proven to be very successful over the past few years by supporting relevant and impactful research. It is great to see APM’s commitment to research by increasing the funding for individual studies and by reaching out to international community. I’m very excited to support this and hope that we will receive interesting and high-quality proposals for this call which will continue to make a difference to project management theory and practice.”
