A new partnership between Transport for London (TfL) and the Association for Project Management (APM), was launched with a celebratory event that showcased the value and importance of TfL’s project work.

TfL is the latest member of APM’s Corporate Partnership programme, which supports more than 400 organisations develop their project, programme and portfolio management capability.

As one of the world’s most recognised organisations, TfL is responsible for running the day-to-day operation of London’s bustling public transport network, including the city’s iconic tube line and red busses. It also delivers major projects like the celebrated new Elizabeth Line, the recently opened Barking Riverside railway station, the 1.4km Silvertown Tunnel under the River Thames, and many more.

Corporate Partnership means that members of TfL’s project teams will be able to access a wide range of benefits from APM that support continuous improvement and good practice, as well as being able to join a shared community of like-minded professionals.

To mark the commencement of the new partnership, representatives from APM joined a special event at TfL’s office in Southwark, London, where senior leaders shared their views on how the collaboration would benefit the organisation’s projects.

Stuart Harvey, TfL Chief Capital Officer, said partnering with APM was an important step, highlighting capability and career development. He said: “To have 400 organisations that we can lean on, to get lessons learned, to have conversations and share knowledge makes us stronger together – 400 times stronger!”

Carilyn Burman, APM’s Director of Membership and Business Development, said: “It was wonderful to join the TfL team at this event and celebrate the start of this new working relationship. London is a fast-paced, dynamic, global city, in which change is constant and rapid. Project professionals in the modern world must keep up with the accelerating pace of change and – in many cases – be the drivers of change. As the chartered membership organisation for the project profession, APM is well placed to support TfL deliver projects that keep London working and growing, and make life in the city better.”
