APM Project Management Conference Edinburgh 2019
The APM Project Management Conference Edinburgh takes place tomorrow (Thursday 21 March) at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and the programme promises to offer a broad range of sessions relevant to project professionals of all backgrounds and career levels.
The conference, which is sponsored by 20/20 Project Management, is the second in APM’s Power of the Profession conference series, with APM’s flagship conference in London rounding off the series on Thursday 2 May.
The APM conference Edinburgh this year aims to explore what goes into Achieving Greater Project Success with sub themes of Sustainability – to reflect the Scottish Government’s commitment to the UN Sustainable development goals - and Investing in the Profession – discussing ways that individuals and organisations can contribute to the development of the project profession.
Keynote speakers will include economist and academic Dame Frances Cairncross DBE and political journalist Isabel Oakeshott, who will provide insight into their views of the environment facing the profession now and in the future.
The Sustainability stream will offer the audience first-hand accounts of challenging projects that have not only gone on to achieve success, but also have had strong societal and economic impact. Programme manager Allyson Blue and strategic partnerships and inequalities manager Annabelle Armstrong-Walter will talk through how they forged strong strategic partnerships to achieve success when managing the APM Award winning Tackling Poverty in Renfrewshire Programme.
In other sessions, Andrew Hepburn, director of major programmes at Openreach will explain the career development opportunities (as well as economic and social benefits) his programme to bring fibre broadband to the far reaches to Scotland provided to the team, and sustainability officer Stewart Miller and senior project management manager Martin Munro from the University of Glasgow will discuss how they incorporate sustainable thinking across all phases of their projects to achieve success.
The Investing in the Profession stream, sponsored by Leidos, aims to inspire project professionals to develop not only themselves but their teams and organisations, both technically and culturally, to contribute something of value back to the profession. Head of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion for Volkerwessels Hollie Woodard will show how both organisations and individuals can champion diversity and provide examples of the benefits this will bring.
‘What legacy will you leave?’ will be the question that learning and development director - projects for BP Group Andrew Tozer will pose to the audience in a thought provoking interactive session about personal and professional development.
Creating a development pathway will be on the agenda during the session delivered by Chief Executive of Leidos Matt Wiles CB CBE. Matt will talk through Leidos’ journey in getting the right balance of technical and developmental skills, and how organisations and individuals can make changes to re-set this balance and achieve greater project success.
