Young project managers have until 15 September to enter this year’s competition for APM Midland branch young Project Manager of the Year. Question packs are requested by emailing YPM@APM-midlands.org.uk.

The award is open to project managers, project professionals and specialists aged 30 years or under at the date of submission, but they may not be a student. Candidates can be working on any project where their involvement has been greater than six months.

Candidates must be nominated by the Corporate Partner or Affiliate by whom they are employed or contracted.  Corporate Partners and Affiliates based in other regions but with a project management function in the Midlands may submit candidates who are working in the Midlands region.

Finalists and guests will be invited to attend a presentation evening on Wednesday 29 November 2017.

The presentation evening will take place at IET Austin Court (the Institution of Engineering & Technology) in Birmingham.  The theme of the awards night will once again be the next generation of the project profession.  Guests will enjoy a motivational presentation from Rob Leslie-Cater, Director at Arup, in addition to informal networking opportunities and an address from APM Chief Executive, Sara Drake.

The winner of the Midlands Branch Young Project Manager of the Year Award 2017 will receive a trophy and package of benefits including two years’ membership of the APM, a copy of the APM Body of Knowledge 6th Edition and £50 of Amazon vouchers.

New for 2017! Candidates will need to include a short (maximum 3 minute) video as part of their submission.  The video offers the opportunity for candidates to be creative in outlining the project context.

There is no cost to enter a submission for the 2017 awards.

James Faflik, a former academy footballer working at construction consultancy Gleeds, was named APM Midlands Branch Young Project Manager of the Year 2016.  James was nominated by Gleeds for his role in the delivery of the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratories for Sustainable Chemistry at the University of Nottingham.
Commenting on his achievements, James explained: “I am very proud to have been named Young Project Manager of the Year 2016 by the Midlands Branch of the Association for Project Management.  Following my career change from sport science I have worked hard to build a career in this industry, so to have gained this kind of recognition is extremely gratifying.  Bringing teams of talented people together to deliver iconic buildings that will stand the test of time is a privilege, and I hope I can go on to inspire others to follow in my footsteps”.
