We’re delighted to share the news that the flagship publication of the chartered body for the project profession - APM Body of Knowledge 7th edition (APMBoK) - is now available. Launched at the APM Conference in London today, the highly anticipated latest edition is a foundational resource that provides the concepts, functions and activities that make up professional project management.

Written by the profession, for the profession, the 7th edition has been edited by Dr Ruth Murray Webster and Professor Darren Dalcher. The content has also been subject to an extensive review – with APM consulting across the profession to ensure that it reflects the latest in professional thinking.

The new edition covers a wider range of topics including the strategic case for beneficial change, the use of linear and iterative lifecycles in project delivery and the critical role people play in delivering success. The newly expanded structure now makes it even more relevant for decision makers and senior leaders, established professionals and those starting their careers.

Key APM BoK 7th edition features include:

  • An extended structure from the strategic case for projects to the delivery of lasting benefits.
  • Chapters for senior leaders as well as those delivering meaningful change.
  • 12 sections and 80 topics covering iterative and linear lifecycles, personal health and wellbeing, leadership, stakeholders and other drivers of successful change.
  • Over 200 recommended references, including APM publications, for professionals to use to expand their knowledge.
  • A comprehensive glossary of key terminology running throughout the book.

Scott Walkinshaw, head of knowledge at APM, said

“We have looked to reflect the developing profession; recognising that project-based working happens at all levels, and across all sectors. It is a keystone in the APM portfolio helping us to continue to set, support and maintain high standards for the profession.”

He continues

“We often hear from members that owning a copy represents an unofficial ‘rite of passage’ for project professionals, making it clear that APMBoK represents more than just a book, but also a physical representation of being part of our growing profession.”

Will this be available as an eBook? We all live in the digital age and having an electronic copy is so much easier to access anywhere.
