An introduction to portfolio management – the theory and in practice webinar
This webinar content was presented twice in 2020 due to its popularity, this first version on Tuesday 19 May and introduced the principles of portfolio management and also provides some examples from recent case studies experienced in delivering a transformation portfolio.
It covered the key principles and approaches with the associated benefits of adopting portfolio management approach to help achieve an organisations objectives and strategic outcomes.
The approach outlined is in line with the APM Body of Knowledge 7th edition and the recently published Portfolio Management – A practical guide that was written by APM Portfolio Management Specific Interest Group.
Case study examples from members of the Specific Interest Group help bring to life some of the challenges encountered in both the introduction and ongoing management of portfolios.
Presenters
Petula Allison is an Enterprise Portfolio Manager, Programme and Change Planning specialist. She has experience in both the public and private sector and is currently working in Financial Services at the Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) as their Change and Portfolio Planning Manager.
She is a member and appointed Co Chair for the APM’s Portfolio Management SIG, which aims to provide a collaborative open forum for practitioners, and anyone with an interest in portfolio management, to get together, share ideas, offer support and advice to the PMO community, and to create valuable practice-oriented knowledge, which helps drive forward the portfolio and project management profession for APM.
Adam Skinner is a Transformation Professional of 15 years experience and P2 Consulting’s Director of Consulting, with responsibility for the quality of all their services and consulting support. Adam specialises providing organisation’s with pragmatic maturity assessments of their transformation ability and then supporting them through engaged mentoring and coaching to deliver those transformations in a fully sustainable fashion. He has established both Waterfall and Agile and Scaled-Agile Portfolios, PMOs & P3M Capabilities across a range of clients and sectors. He builds on his MSc in Major Programme Management from Oxford University as a regular speaker and blogger on good Programme and Portfolio Management Practice and also actively promotes good portfolio management as Co Chair of the APM's Portfolio Management Specific Interest Group, where he runs the annual conference and is co-author of the guide ‘Portfolio Management: a practical guide’ and publication ‘The agile portfolio: Fact or Fiction’.
