This was the first of three virtual panels focusing on key project issues for university students and academics - Agile project management, on 29 October 2020.

The panel included:

  • Mr Adrian Pyne, Pyne Consulting
  • Dr Serkan Ceylan, University of Southampton
  • Professor Helen Sharp, Open University

After the panelists’ introductions, the remainder of the session was open to students, academics as well as practitioners to ask questions, share views and debate the issues. We hope that the session supported students’ knowledge on this issue and help create new networks. Students from all subject backgrounds were welcome to attend.

Our second and third sessions later in the year will focus on lessons learned from lockdown and how to manage virtual teams.

Adrian, Serkan and Helen have very kindly allowed their presented material to be made available for viewing. The webinar recording on YouTube is now available in our APM resources area and also embedded below for reference.

Adrian Pyne is above all a project professional. He has led or rescued Transformation programmes widely from Telcos to eCommerce, Finance. Mining, Aviation, and the public sector. He has designed, built and operated P3 (project, programme and portfolio management) capability and PMOs, and Professional Services businesses.

He is an APM RPP Assessor and was on APM’s Audit Committee. Having been a volunteer for over 25 years. Including with ProgM, Governance and Assurance SIGS. Also a strong advocate of Diversity within the profession.

Dr Serkan Ceylan is the Director for the Centre for Applied Science in Project Management (CentasPM). He is playing a key role in the field of project management within the Operations, Projects, Purchasing, and Supply (OPPS) group within the Department of Decision Analytics and Risk (DAR) at the University of Southampton Business School.

Dr Serkan Ceylan is a published author of the book: AgileFrame® Understanding multifaceted project approaches for successful project management.

Helen Sharp is Professor of Software Engineering at the Open University, UK. Leveraging expertise in both HCI and Software Engineering her research investigates professional software practice with a focus on human and social aspects of software development and she has been studying agile practice since 2000.

Helen has led multi-disciplinary research projects into software practice with partners in the UK and abroad, and conducts her research exclusively in-situ with software practitioners in their industrial context.
