Chartered results day - 8 out of 10 employers prefer chartered
New APM research, ‘Taking a Seat at the Table’, has established that 78% of employers were more likely to recruit a project manager holding chartered status than another candidate who did not.
The APM commissioned research interviewed 250 employers, 89 per cent of whom cited ChPP as having a positive impact on a professional’s employability and 86 per cent who believed that an individual’s chartered status would have a positive impact on the reputation of their business. Ultimately holding a professional project qualification when job seeking was considered important by 81 per cent of employers.
This will be music to the ears of more than 100 project professionals who received an early Christmas present this Wednesday 19 December when they successfully achieve Chartered Project Professional status (ChPP). This second cohort of chartered individuals form part of a new standard for the project profession, each now able to use the post nominal ChPP and take their place on the Association for Project Management (APM) Register of Chartered Project Professionals.
Debbie Dore chief executive of APM said “This new research illustrates the genuine value of chartership and reinforces the fact that despite only receiving our Royal Charter in 2016, ChPP has fast become a recognised benchmark for the project profession. I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate each of those who have achieved chartership today and encourage many more to follow in their footsteps.”
This latest cohort featured project professionals from a wide range of different sectors including: construction, defence, education, finance, engineering and technology, working for companies such as Network Rail, Costain, BAE Systems, Ministry of Defence, Rolls-Royce PLC and United Utilities.
Speaking about her newly minted Chartership, Jo Dimitri, Senior Project Manager at The National Trust said “The ChPP provides a recognised standard for a profession that adds enormous value to organisations and can be transformative. For me personally, being chartered provides a professional underpinning to my career, demonstrating my commitment to and experience in managing projects and giving an extra layer of credibility to my work within the Trust and amongst our partners.”
ChPP is exclusively awarded by APM and is a benchmark demonstrating the attainment of a defined level of technical knowledge, professional practice and ethical behaviour. Today’s development will swell the number of those having achieved chartership to nearly 400 with the next cohort’s results due to be announced on 3 April January and a further three throughout 2019.
Full details of the criteria for achieving chartership and the routes to get there can be found on the APM website https://www.apm.org.uk/chartered-standard/ where you can also view the Register of Chartered Project Professionals.
