Professor Fiona Macaulay

Professor Fiona Macaulay holds the chair in Gender, Peace and Development in the Department of Peace Studies and International Development at the University of Bradford, where she is also the Director of the Rotary Peace Centre there.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Fiona is interested in social innovation and applied knowledge. Her areas of research include human rights, the influence of civil society on policy-making, and effective approaches to violence reduction, specifically in relation to gender-based violence in Latin America and beyond. She led Amnesty International's work on human rights in Brazil, has experience in running several small development NGOs, including a partnership with Nobel Peace prize winners, and engages directly with policy-makers. For example, her train-the-trainer manual for police in Brazil has enabled law enforcement officers and community members to better identify and mitigate the risk of domestic violence escalating into lethal violence.
