ECITB celebrates ChPP success as next round opens

The ECITB is celebrating the success of ten people from across the engineering construction industry who have just achieved Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status from the Association for Project Management (APM) while opening applications for next year’s cohort.

Every year, in partnership with the APM, the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) supports project professionals to gain chartership in the project management discipline.

The ECITB fully funds the programme and has doubled the number of places it will support for the 2024/2025 cohort after the scheme was oversubscribed with applications last year. The application process is now open for the 30 places due to start 10 October 2024.

Among the ten who have just achieved chartered status having completed the programme are: Matthew Longmuir-Smith, Mikhail Faskheev and Barry Couper from Worley, Kerry Grant from Cameron (an SLB Company), Michael Scholfield from Jacobs, Vicki Baxter from Nuclear Restoration Services (previously Magnox Ltd), Ryan McBain from Shepley Engineers Ltd, John Green and Alister James Gordon from STATS Group and Jamie O'Reilly from Stopford.

A further four people are due to complete the programme later this year.

Michael Scholfield, Operations Manager at Jacobs, was the first to complete the programme. He said: “I wanted to gain chartership but needed something structured to help me to juggle my time with a busy job and family life.

“As well as the professional recognition, the programme has given me additional confidence in my project management ability. It has reinvigorated my desire and confidence for professional development.”

Matt Knights, Head of Regional Operations at the ECITB, said: “The ChPP programme is a great way for individuals to achieve the chartered status. We recognise the importance of the project management discipline across the engineering construction industry and invest in the programme to ensure this kind of recognition can be accessed.”

ChPP 2024/25 programme

Delivered remotely by Changescope Ltd to allow applicants from anywhere in the UK, the programme is delivered over a series of workshops dedicated to the key areas of the project management discipline. The key dates for the programme are:

The workshops will be run by Eddie Kilkelly of Changescope, a Chartered Fellow of the APM with a wealth of experience in complex programme delivery.

Throughout the programme candidates must demonstrate their capabilities as a responsible leader with the skills and abilities required to manage complex projects and use appropriate tools, processes and techniques.

They show assessors their competencies in multiple areas through a portfolio of evidence and an interview. Successful candidates are included on the publicly available APM Register of Chartered Project Professionals.

Nikki MacPherson, Regional Operations Manager at the ECITB, said: “There was a great team spirit among this year’s cohort with people sharing their experiences and offering support to others.

“Last year we received more than double the number of applications to places. We want to give more people the chance to complete the programme, hence increasing the funding for additional places, but we expect the number of applications to be high once again.

“I would therefore advise project management professionals to apply for places as soon as possible.”
